This course will teach you the skills and knowledge needed to develop long-term engagement for civil society organisations, groups and individuals working on climate change and low-carbon living. The pressing issue of climate change demands active involvement from the public, but facilitating engagement on these complex issues can be challenging. Organisations and individuals need to consider energy and climate change issues when planning their work. This course outlines why energy and climate change can be a particularly difficult issue for communities, how to overcome this, and create long-term interest in limiting and adapting to climate change.

People attending this course will help you to: Understand how community engagement can deliver lasting change on climate and energy efficiency issues. Appreciate the reasons communities may struggle to take action on climate change, like addressing climate change myths, and how to overcome these. Develop an understanding of links between fuel poverty and low carbon living. Clarify methods of communication on climate change and how to create a public outreach strategy to communicate climate change. Learn to lead discussions and campaigns on the positive aspects of low carbon living. Develop methods for designing and implementing an action plan on reducing your carbon footprint.

Who should attend the training?
The course will benefit anyone working with or seeking to work with community organisations on behavioural changes around energy and climate change, including organisers, community workers, and activists. The course will address methods to include both enthusiastic and less engaged communities in campaigns to limit and adapt to climate change. All participants will be given the opportunity to develop their own actions plans and receive feedback from the group. Course materials will be available to all participants.
