  1. Is there a definition of common environmental terms in plain English?

  2. How do I calculate what my carbon footprint is?

    A carbon calculator that will help you determine your carbon footprint is available on the EPA website here. You will be able to see instantly what areas of your lifestyle you need to adjust in order to reduce your carbon footprint.

     
  3. I want to switch to energy-saving light bulbs. Which ones are most efficient?

  4. What areas are at particular risk from radon?

    Between 1992 and 1999, the Radoiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII) carried out radon measurements in each county. The results of this survey can be viewed on the EPA website.

     
  5. How can I test my home for radon?

    If you would like to test your home for radon levels, contact the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII). Home testing radon detectors are available at a small cost and can be returned to the RPII for testing. For more details, see the EPA website.

     
  6. Where can I find more articles on the environment and climate change?

    Check out reputable sources like NASA and others, by just googling 'climate change news' or something specific you're interested in, you will find thousands of articles. Be careful that you read ones from geniune reputable publications, as there's a lot of misinformation out there!

     
  7. I'd like to do some voluntary work. What's involved and where can I find out what type of work is available?

    Many organisations around the country are always looking for dedicated volunteers. Volunteers can usually decided how much time they can commit. This can be anything from full-time to a few hours a week,  either on a short-term or long-term basis.   8. How can I find out where and when the local markets are on?

    Check the local farmers' markets website for details of locations and dates for upcoming markets. Bord bia also supply a list of farmers' markets as well as country markets in all the different counties.

     
  9. I have a problem with noise pollution in my area. Where do I make a complaint about it?

    If noise pollution is coming from people living in a private rented accommodation, their landlord should be contacted. If the landlord fails to enforce the tenant noise obligation, you can make a complaint to the Private Tenancies Board.

    If you want to complain about noise pollution that is being caused by local authority tenants, please contact your local authority.

    If you are experiencing a noise problem from a private home owner, under the Noise Regulations you can complain to the District Court and ask for an order to deal with the noise problem.

     
  10. How can I encourage biodiversity in my garden?

    To encourage biodiversity plant a variety of flowers, shrubs and trees to attract different animals. Most importantly, don't forget to provide water for all plant and animal life - you could include a small pond in your garden.
