Roderic O'Conor was an Irish artist that lived most of his life in France. He was born in Co. Roscommon in 1860. He went to the Dublin School of Art when he was nineteen years old. He also studied in Belgium and Paris.

When he moved to France, O'Conor saw the art of the Impressionists. He liked the work of the Impressionsist landscape artists, such as Pissaro and Sisley. He became interested in painting landscapes. Eventually, he moved to the east coast. Many other artists worked there at this time.
Later in life, O'Conor painted less landscapes. Instead, he painted more still life and inside scenes. He is famous for the strong colours in his paintings. He died in March 1940 in France.
