Miscellaneous Irish Traditional Crafts

As in life, there are some things that cannot be defined under any one heading.

Traditional water mill

The film Stoneground documents a traditional water mill. Martry Mill, owned by the Tallon family, was established near Kells Co. Meath in 1659 on the River Blackwater. The film shows the age-old process of milling grain into flour, using the power of water and traditional stoneground milling techniques. The mill has produced stoneground products for over 350 years. We see the work of millers aware of their heritage, and traditional practices now lost to more advanced methods.
