The Just Society was a policy statement adopted by Fine Gael in the 1960s, based on principles of social justice and equality. It was created by by the emerging social democratic wing of the party, led by Declan Costello.
Declan Costello and others persuaded the party to publish the policy document Towards a Just Society. The party adopted a mild version of Costello's vision. Costello's ideas had a significant influence on progressive Fine Gael politicians, most notably Garret FitzGerald, who was Taoiseach for much of the 1980s.
