St. Killian's Heritage Centre

St. Killian's Heritage Centre is dedicated to the martyred St. Killian, who was born in Mullagh, Co. Cavan and became the patron saint of Wurzburg, Germany.

Part of the exhibit includes a 15 minutes film which tells the story of his life, missionary work and death. There is historical information on the links between Wurzburg and Germany.

Maps, photographs, manuscripts and art detail the role of 6th and 7th century Irish missionary monks who took part in the conversion of Germany to Christianity. Another exhibit shows how Gaelic script developed from Ogham stone carvings.

St. Killian's Heritage Centre is one third funded from Germany, it also received funding from the International Fund for Ireland , Cavan / Monaghan Leader and the Local Community.

The heritage centre also includes a craft shop, tourist information and a tea room serving homemade produce.
