Dunsink Observatory

The oldest scientific institution in the country is Dunsink Observatory, Castleknock. It was constructed between 1783-85 for the Professor of Astronomy at Trinity College on a hill about 8km from the city centre. It was home to the astronomy division of the School of Cosmic Physics in Dublin Institute for Advanced Sciences. Vistors can see the Grubb telespope and two smaller telescopes and enjoy audio-visual presentations about astronomy and the history of the observatory.
