Limerick City Gallery of Art houses a fine permanent collection, started in 1936. Through this collection it is possible to trace the development of modern Irish art in painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and new media. The Gallery also holds the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing. The exhibition programme of contemporary art presents projects by local, national and international artists. Each year Limerick City Gallery of Art hosts the ev+a exhibition, Ireland's leading annual exhibition of contemporary art.
