Ireland's Historic Science Centre

The Centre is housed in the restored stables designed by Mary Rosse in the 1850's. A series of galleries demonstrate the many pioneering achievements of the Parsons family and other great Irish Scientists in the fields of astronomy, engineering, photography and horticulture.   Four of the galleries are dedicated to the design, build and discoveries of the Great Telescope.  There is a gallery focusing on the photography of Mary Countess of Rosse and also galleries concentrating on the design & propagation of the plant collections & gardens here at Birr.
