Adare Manor

The Irish Tourist Association photos provide important visual records of manor houses in Limerick. Adare Manor, built by the Dunraven family, is an example of one of these.

The Black Abbey, Adare

The Black Abbey in Adare, Co. Limerick was founded in the early 1300s. It was originally known as the Adare Augustinian Friary.

It is called the Black Abbey today due to the black habit of the monks

  that once occupied it.

In the nineteenth century, some restorations were made by the Dunraven family.

The Black Abbey is now the Adare Church of Ireland parish church.

Moor Abbey

The ruins of Moor Abbey are located on the outskirts of Galbally, Co. Limerick. The original church at Moor Abbey was founded in 1204.

Moor Abbey was constructed under the patronage of the O'Brien's as a Franciscan friary.

It was burned several times during the process of construction by the armies of Desmond and Ormond. In 1472, it was burned to the ground and was rebuilt in 1473.
