  • Aspects of Limerick

This postcard shows the transatlantic airbase at Foynes, Co. Limerick in the 1940s.

Pan-American sea-planes flew between Foynes and New York up to ten times per week between 1939 and 1945.

The view of Foynes has changed hugely now, with the massive Aughinish plant dominating the area in the centre of the postcard.

Postcards of the same location over different periods of time are also useful, as they allow us to see changes in the landscape.

This postcard shows the Desmond Castle, Adare, in the 1920s.
