Holy Places
A pilgrimage is a long journey to a sacred place. All the major religions have special places where their members hope to journey one day. A person who goes on a pilgrimage is called a 'pilgrim'.
There are two places in Co. Mayo which attract thousands of pilgrims each year.
Pilgrims have made their way to the mountain of Croagh Patrick for hundreds of years. By comparison, pilgrimages to the small town of Knock are a recent development.
