Clare County Library

25th May

2014 marks the 51st anniversary of Africa Day

Africa Day, designated by the African Union as an annual celebration of the continents unity, falls on 25th May each year. Africa Day provides an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of the peoples and governments of Africa; and their host country's government for Africans in Diaspora, to reaffirm a combined and continued support to build a better future. Africa is a dynamic continent undergoing fundamental transformation. 2014 marks the 51st anniversary of Africa Day.

Celebrations to mark the day occur across the globe and in some African states it is a designated national holiday. Events are also taking place throughout County Clare as part of these celebrations. For its part, Clare County Library will showcase a selection of African books and books by African authors by having book displays in selected branches. On Friday 23rd May there will be a session of reading and poetry to celebrate the day in the De Valera Public Library, Ennis at 6pm. The De Valera library will also play host to children from the Holy Family National School and entertain them with an African story time at 11.15am On Tuesday 28th May.
