9.1.4 Getting recognition

When you say it in print, remember to include an easy-to-find, large print notice about what other formats are available, and how to get them. Put this where people can see it easily: for example, on the inside front cover, or near the top of the form.

One of the main reasons for low uptake of alternative formats is that potential users don’t know they are available.

In 2010 the NCBI (National Council for the Blind of Ireland) launched a clear print ‘quality mark’. You can submit printed documents, forms, posters and other printed material to NCBI’s Media Centre and if they meet certain criteria you will be able to put the clear print quality mark on them.

If they don’t, the Media Centre will recommend changes. There is a charge for this service. More information is available from the NCBI Media Centre (tel 01 864 2266, e-mail lina.kouzi@ncbi.ie ).

The recommendations about print size, colour contrast and so on also apply to web-based information. See the NCBI Centre for Inclusive Technology website to find out more.
