The Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) was a secretive revolutionary organisation whose aim was to overthrow British rule in Ireland. The IRB grew out of the Fenian movement, which began in the 1850s. Later, the 1916 Rising was organised by the Supreme Council of the IRB, led by Patrick Pearse, along with James Connolly and his Irish Citizen Army.
