The MacAdam water turbine in the Lifeforce Mill in Cavan town is believed to be the only surviving working example of its kind.  It was designed at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution by Robert MacAdam, a native of Belfast.  It was much quicker and more efficient than the water wheel which had been used up until that point.
