The word 'metamorphosis' comes from Greek and means 'transformation'.

It is a process of complete change in form from one stage to the next in the life of an animal. For example, at each stage of metamorphosis the animal's organs will develop. 

Unfortunately, little is known about the metamorphosis of fish.

When an insect or animal undergoes metamorphosis, it may also change its habitat to adapt to its new form.
