The Middle Ages (also known as medieval times) is a term used to describe the time between the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the Renaissance i.e.: the 5th to the 15th centuries. It covers about 1,000 years.

Historians often break European history into three catagories,  

• The Classical Civilisation or Classical Antiquity (the ancient Greeks and Romans for example)
• The Middle Ages
• Modern Times
