Mythological heroes and heroic deeds were important features of the literary revival. Yeats and A.E  both wrote plays for the Irish National Theatre Society based on mythological stories. This picture represents the dying of Cuchulainn, one of Ireland foremost mythological figure. The raven represents the Goddess Morrigan or Badh who was the Goddess of  Battle and war. She appeared in many of the battles of Celtic mythology, in the form of the raven as in Án Tain, or as an old hag. In either of her forms she appears just before a battle or in the midst of it, flying over head. At the end of the Tain, she lands on Cuchulainn, signalling to all that he is dead.
