The Pulham rock feature was a creation by James Pulham, a well-renown landscape gardener of the 19th century. Pulham and his son specialised in creating rock gardens from both artificial and natural rocks, which they skilfully blended together to create the impression of a completely natural garden.
The substance they created to blend the rocks together was called Pulhamite. They did not pass on his skill, and so key to the Pulhamite blend remains a mystery to this day.
