Beckett found it hard to get his early books published. His avant garde style was difficult for a lot of people. Despite this, he persisted and in 1953 'Waiting for Godot' was produced to great acclaim. Beckett and MacCreavy both lived in Paris during the late 1920s and it was at this stage their friendship was formed. Beckett was an active member of the resistance there during the war. Like Beckett, Kerry poet Thomas MacCreavy did not receive much attention for his works of poetry. These images were taken in London in the 1930s.
