Mead is the probably oldest alcoholic beverage in the world. It dates back to prehistoric times, and versions of it were consumed in many parts of the world. Mead was made from fermented honey and water with herbs and spices. It was often sweetened with more honey at the end of the process.
Mead was considered a delicacy in Ireland for many centuries. The great banqueting hall of Tara, known as the seat of the High Kings, was called the Mead Circling House.
