What Were The Penal Laws?

In the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, a series of laws were introduced that made it illegal to run Roman Catholic schools. Other laws introduced at this time forbade Roman Catholics from voting and getting certain jobs. The Penal Laws were abolished by the early nineteenth century.
