Constance Markievicz's family estate in Lissadell, County Sligo employed hundreds of people to work on their farm.  Local people worked in many differnet areas of the farm:

• cattle rearing
• dairying
• engineering
• forestry
• horticulture
• fisheries
• fruit growing
• egg production
• shirt making

A steady stream of carts carrying produce from the Lissadell Estate into Sligo was an everyday sight.

Nowadays the Lissadell area is inhabited by a mix of farmers, retired people and commuters to Sligo.
