In My Father's House

Cover of 'In My Fathers House' by Seán Dunne In My Father's House is a biographical memoir chronicling Seán's childhood in St John's Park in the 1960s, bringing this era to life for many Waterford people. It was a best seller when it appeared in 1991

Isabel Healy of the Cork Examiner interviewed Seán on 31st October 1991, the week that In My Father's House was published. She wrote; "In My Father's House is the story of Seán Dunne's childhood. It is the beautifully crafted literary work of a poet honest and unsentimental and disarmingly simple, it is rich in smells, in characters, the traits of a large family and resonant with place names; Poleberry, Ballytruckle, Mooncoin, The Folly...It should be listened to rather than read".

Healy added Seán is a "hard working writer, disciplined to the point of ruthlessness. In My Father's House was originally a quarter of a million words, but in six drafts he honed it down to 120 pages".

Seán himself added; "In My Father's House is an attempt to keep in touch with the boy within the man. Although I write constantly a lot goes in the bin. There are too many bad books being written in Ireland at the moment. I keep only ten poems a year".
