Irish Defence Forces Military Archives

The Irish Defences Forces Military Archive acquires, preserves and makes available to the public the heritage of the Defences Forces and the Department of Defence. The Irish Defence Forces traces its origins back to the Irish Volunteers, the 'Old' IRA and the National Army from the period of 1916-23. Throughout the 20th century the Irish Free State and later the Republic of Ireland remained neutral but Irish military personal served around the world on United Nations peacekeeping missions.
