Rath at Raheenabrogue

In Raheenabrogue there is a small rath. Some years ago, the farmer attempted to cultivate part of this land. He cut down one hawthorn tree, and then, feeling unwell, returned to his house.

A pale death came upon him, and he lay for six months in the inside room. One morning his wife got up early to make him a cup of tea, and while she was boiling the kettle a monstrous black cock flew on to the half-door, and crowed loudly into the house. She ran into the inside room and found her husband dead in the bed.
