Surrounded by Nature

The Gap of Dunloe National School in the Black Valley is very isolated.

Many small, old schools like this one are now closed. Happily, this one is still open.

The picture shows how the school was rebuilt to accommodate more students.

The children who go to this school are surrounded by nature. As one teacher wrote:

'Our best friends were the farm animals: horses, cows, calves, bulls, bullocks, hens, chicken, pigs, dogs, cats and an occasional deer. We know all these by name.'
