Sport and recreation

Lough Ennell was and still is a popular fishing lake. Fishing season begins on March 1st and ends October 12th. Anglers require a fishing permit with day and 21 day passes available. As the season progresses more hatches appear and while in most Irish trout fisheries the season reaches its peak in May this isn't true of Lough Ennell. The season peaks in the second week of August and continues until the middle of September.

Average size of trout caught in recent years has been 21lbs.

Fishing is a very popular sport on the lake during the season but there are also a number of facilities on or near the lake. Both the Mullingar Golf Club and Lough Ennell holiday village lie on the Tudenham shore of the lake. There are many other amenities including the Ledestown Stables which are nearby, there is an adventure centre at the Lilliput shore, and the famous visitors centre and gardens of Belvedere.
