There are a number of holy wells dotted throughout Co. Longford. The most popular of these wells could be listed as follows: St Patrick's Well, Tobar na mBan Naomh (The Well of The Holy Women), Tobar Righ an Domhnaigh (The Well of The King of Sunday) and Tobergowna (The Well of Gowna).
Various stories have been handed down through the ages in relation to each of the wells. The stories reveal that the holy well and its contents were greatly respected by the local people. The Stations of the Cross were often held in these locations and locals circled the well as they prayed.
