Transport
Transport emissions increased by 1.6% in 2018 or 0.20 Mt CO2eq. This is the fifth year out of the last six with increased emissions in transport. Total energy consumption in road transport increased by 1.1% in 2018; petrol, -9.2%, diesel +4.6% and biofuels -4.0%. Looking at the underlying drivers, the number of passenger diesel cars increased by 7.7% in 2018 while the number of passenger petrol cars decreased by 4.5%, commercial vehicle numbers increased by 1.7% and employment grew by 2.3% between Q4 2017 and Q4 2018. (EPA, 2020).
