Main Greenhouse Gases

There are a wide range of greenhouse gases (GHGs) that are contributing to global warming. However, the most important GHGs in terms of their warming potential are:

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • Methane (CH4)
  • Nitrous Oxide (N2O)
  • Tropospheric Ozone (O3)

Other important greenhouse gases include the F- Gases:  hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), perfluorocarbons (PFC) and sulphur hexafluoride (SF6).
