Most of our furry friends belong to a class of animals called mammals. Scientists class groups of animals together because they are alike in some important ways. Mammals are the class of animals that people belong to.
Here are some of the ways that mammals are alike.
- Mammals are warm-blooded. Their bodies are able to keep almost the same temperature all the time. This means they can live in many different types of habitats. For example, polar bears live in the cold Arctic and camels live in the hot desert.
- All mammals have fur or hair.
- All mammal babies drink milk from their mother's body.
- All mammals have a spine, or backbone.
