Leylandii is a non-native hedgerow tree. It first started to grow in hedgerow just over 100 years ago.
There is a huge variety of shrubs and trees growing in hedgerows. They are home to about two-thirds of our birds e.g. thrushes, blackbirds, chaffinches etc.

Nobody is allowed to cut hedgerows between March 1st and August 31st. This is when the bushes are growing and the animals have their young.
