The pipes and the fiddle soon became very popular as well. Most of the Irish dance music was created from these instruments. The harp was not usually used for dance music.

Other important instruments in Irish music are: the flute, the whistle, the accordion and the concertina.
Today the guitar is often played in Irish music sessions. Seán Ó Riada began to play the bodhrán in traditional Irish music in the 1960s. Drums had not usually been used before this. Now the bodhrán is a very popular instrument.
