What is Climate Change?
A climate is the average weather for a certain place. In Ireland we have a temperate climate, which includes some sunshine and rainshowers on most days! However, there has been an increase in temperatures all over the world due to the burning of fossil fuels, causing changes in our climate.
Climate change worsens drought, rising sea levels and extremely harsh weather conditions such as hurricanes, tidal waves and high temperatures. People living in very dry, desert regions or areas prone to flooding feel the change in climate even more.
Did you know that the last ten years have been the warmest in Ireland since records began?
Before we look at what causes climate change, we need to learn about the natural carbon cycle in the Earth's atmosphere.
