A predator is any animal or organism which survives by eating other animals or organisms. The animals or organisms that they eat are known as prey. The natural world is a careful balance between predators and prey. Many animals can be both predator and prey - for example a snake preys on (kills and eats) toads, but is also hunted, itself, by hawks.
