Leixlip is a good example of the changes in traffic that have taken place in Ireland over the years.
In 1977 an average of 7,651 vehicles passed through Leixlip Main Street every day, and by 1985 this figure had risen to 12,000.

When the Intel factory came to Leixlip in 1990, a lot of jobs were created.
With more people travelling to Leixlip to work in Intel, the traffic in the town increased again.
This additional traffic caused many problems.
At peak times there were traffic jams in the village of Leixlip and even on the dual carriageway leading to the city centre.
