Overview of the unit for 3rd and 4th classes
This unit on electricity supports the main objectives of the “Magnetism and Electricity” strand unit of the primary science curriculum for 3rd and 4th class level.
It develops children’s understanding of concepts such as: · static electricity · current electricity · circuits (closed and open) · energy and energy sources used in the generation of electricity · conductors and insulators Children are encouraged to reflect on their understanding of the above through series of questions, diagrams and activities to stimulate their thinking. Children are asked to sort information and make judgments from their observations. While the unit explores aspects such as circuits in a virtual way teachers are encouraged to give children the actual experiences of making connections and testing for conductors etc using actual batteries, bulbs and wires.
