During the 18th century, many Irish artists and patrons travelled Europe on the 'Grand Tour'. People went on the Grand Tour to learn more about the classical art and culture of France and Italy. As a result, many Irish artists became very interested in mythology. In the 19th century, Irish mythology became very popular in art.
