Louis le Broquy is one of the greatest Irish artists of the 20th century. He is a master of many different types of art e.g. painting, illustration, printing, tapestry design, and set design for theatre. His work is included in the Permanent Irish Collection at the National Gallery of Ireland.
Louis le Broquy was born in Dublin in 1916, the year of the Easter Rising. He studied chemistry at Trinity College. Later, he went to England, France and Italy to study the paintings of old masters. He came home in 1940 and started his career as a self-taught artist.
Louis le Broquy died on 25th April, 2012 at the age of ninety-five.
