Roderic O'Conor was an Irish artist that lived most of his life in France. He was born in Co. Roscommon in 1860 and went to the Dublin School of Art (now the National College of Art and Design) when he was 19 years old. He also studied in Belgium before moving to Paris.
When he moved to France, O'Conor saw the art of the Impressionists. He especially liked the work of the Impressionsist landscape artists, such as Pissaro and Sisley. He too became interested in painting landscapes. Eventually, he moved to Pont-Aven along the east coast where many other artists worked.
Later in life, O'Conor painted more still life and inside scenes. He is famous for the strong colours in his paintings. He died in March 1940 in France.
