Outside the town, we can see the hills of Killeshin, blue in the warm haze of summer. These hills are in Queen's County. The countryside is looking beautiful in the sunshine. Men are out working in the fields. The cows are grazing. Now and then, a bird flies past.
The guard comes to our carriage to check the tickets. The next station is Milford. Milford is a very important station for the transport of lime from the nearby Clogrennane lime works. Milford is also famous for its mills, owned by the Alexander family.

In 1847, a viaduct (bridge) was built over the Barrow to carry the railway. Colonel Philip Newton of Dunleckney Manor, near Bagenalstown, laid the first stone.

We get out and mother gives Katie a present of a home-made apple cake that she baked in the bastible last night. I can't wait for a piece!
