We can tell from the map that the towers were sited at regular intervals along the coastline to ensure maximum coverage. Towers were also built along the English coastline in areas seen as vulnerable to attack from Napoleon's navy. In addition, there were many towers built in parts of the world that were then in the British Empire, such as South Africa, Canada and Australia.
