Audrey GeraghtyThe slabs are very important to historians today because they provide real evidence that the Vikings actually lived in Dublin.
Twenty-eight slabs have been found across the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown area: at Ballyman, Dalkey, Kilgobbin, Killegar, Kiltiernan, Rathfarnham, Tully, and Whitechurch, with the biggest group of nine slabs located at Rathmichael.
They are simple in appearance, usually a couple of feet in height and about a foot in width. They have ancient designs carved on them.
