Connemara attracts many visitors who enjoy its wild beauty.
© Department of the Enviornment, Heritage and Local GovernmentConnemara lies west of Lough Corrib. The landscape is mountainous and rocky. Stone walls divide the land up into small fields. The land is not very useful for farming but herds of hardy, mountain sheep manage to find enough grass to survive.
Connemara also has one of the largest Irish speaking communities in Ireland. Thousands of school children come to study Irish there every year. Raidió na Gaeltachta, the Irish language radio station, and TG4, the Irish language television station, are both located in Connemara.
Connemara is very popular with tourists who visit to enjoy the unspoilt landscape. A wide variety of outdoor activities can be enjoyed there like hiking, cycling, sailing, horseriding and fishing.
