Courtesy of Fr Tomas O'Luanaigh, compiler of -A Journey through Tuosist (2004)-The Kerry breed of cattle are small finely-shaped animals. They are black or red in colour, with miniature upturned horns and are famous for the quality of of their flesh and milk.
Another breed common in Kerry is "the Dexter". It is a cross between the Kerry and an unknown breed, is larger but without its fine qualities.
The most common breed of sheep in Kerry have been crossed with a merino breed from Spain and are pictured to the right.
Goats share the sweet pasture of the higher mountain ridges with sheep, while cattle occupy the lower slopes.
