© Leitrim County LibraryThe climate in Leitirim is relatively mild with moist winters and cool, cloudy summers. Much of the land is unsuitable for grass production because of poor drainage.
The land of Leitrim is difficult to farm. It is difficult for someone to make a living by just farming. There are very few full time farmers and most farmers will have a second job. Some farmers in Letrim have found new ways of making a living from the land like agri-tourism, open farms or by growing organic vegetables.
In recent times, forestry has become an important industry in Leitrim. Fast growing conifers can be grown on land which is not much use for agriculture.
