In 1837, a book called A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland was published by Samuel Lewis & Co. publishers. It listed all the parishes, villages and towns in the country.
It was accompanied by an atlas containing a map of Ireland and maps of the individual counties.

Lewis's atlas contained the most accurate and detailed maps of Ireland that had ever been created up until that date. The dictionary and atlas are also important historically for the picture they give of Ireland just a few years before the Famine began.
