What to do
Navan is the largest town in County Meath. It has around 3,500 inhabitants and serves an area in which about 25,000 people live. It has always been very important for the town to have good schools to educate it's young people.
Flower Hill School, Navan, Co. Meath
Here is a colour photograph of Flower Hill School in Navan, one of two Church of Ireland Schools based in Navan in the late 19th and early 20th century. It was built in 1887. You can see the red brick window surround and chimneys. Modern refuse bins and security lighting are also in evidence. The building is no longer used as school.

By permission of Meath County LibraryThe main primary schools in Navan up until the 1970s were Scoil Mhuire for boys, run by the De La Salle Brothers, St. Joseph's for girls, run by the Mercy Sisters, St. Anne's for girls, run by the Loreto Sisters and Canicetown School, which was a small two-teacher school.
Protestant children attended Flower Hill School on Flower Hill and the Preston School, which was located on the site of the shopping centre.
